Clinical significance of HER2 in gastric cancer

With the potential to inform treatment options, HER2 testing is of vital importance in enabling us to learn more about patients' gastric cancer.1 To support HER2 IHC clinical practice, the ASCO-ASCP-CAP joint committee have published extensive testing guidelines, which cover pre-analytics, scoring, and reporting recommendations.1

How does HER2 in gastric cancers differ from breast?

Gastric HER2 IHC scoring algorithm

ASCO-ASCP-CAP guidelines recommend the following scoring algorithm for gastric cancers, which define separate scoring criteria for surgical and biopsy specimens.
